The Grant at Woodlawn Park, POAH's second new construction building on South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago, has earned the "LEED for Homes" Platinum rating- the highest possible ranking- from the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This is POAH's second LEED Platinum designation in Chicago; The Jackson at Woodlawn Park earned the title a few years ago. Both buildings have a solar thermal hot water system, Energy Star appliances, extensive storm water retention, super insulation and a tight building envelope as well as substantial green space.
According to the USGBC, "The LEED certification process is designed to inspire project teams to seek innovative solutions that are better for our environment and better for our communities. LEED-certified buildings are resource efficient. They use less water and energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As an added bonus, they save money."
